ABOUT
SIDE STREET ADVENTURES

We started on a side street. The idea was always bigger.

Conceived in Johannesburg as an active experiential supplement to Tamrich’s Johannesburg wholesale tourism operations, Side Street Adventures began in Wilderness in 2021 with a simple belief:

Travel gets more interesting when you get closer to a place.
Our first local adventures took travellers onto e-bikes and walking routes around Wilderness, combining beautiful landscapes with the stories and people behind them.
Somewhere along the way, we realised that the thing we loved most wasn’t the bike.
It was the discovery.
Finding somebody interesting. Hearing the story nobody had told us before. Taking the road we might otherwise have passed. Seeing somewhere differently.
Today, that philosophy is taking Side Street Adventures further.

We’re In Search of Incredible.

We seek out remarkable people, places and experiences offering something more personal, meaningful or unexpected than the standard itinerary.
Sometimes that’s an e-bike above Wilderness.
Sometimes it’s meeting Johannesburg through its artists.
Sometimes it’s following a story through an entire city.
Sometimes it’s working with developing new products and entrepreneurs in KwaZulu-Natal or the expanses of the Northern Cape.
And sometimes we haven’t found it yet.

That’s why we keep looking.

We really enjoyed our tour with our guide Stix and another South African lady. Stix even offered a tour that wasn't in the regular schedule. After some security instructions, we were all set to go and it was a lot of fun driving these bikes. Going downhill they were quite fast. The views on the way and the "Map of Africa" were amazing. Also the beach and the story about Leeintjies Klip were great! We enjoyed the tour with Stix a lot! Thank you!

I highly recommend this Ebike Tour. We had a total of 8 people and 2 very skilled and entertaining guides accompanied us on the guided tour of the area surrounding Wilderness. It was visually stunning, providing simply breathtaking views. The tour started with an orientation session allowing everyone to get used to how the ebikes function. Overall the full tour took between 2 to 3 hours. If you're doing this in winter, I would strongly suggest that you take a warm jacket as it gets very cold as you travel higher into the mountains.

Richard was a great guide on the E bike tour. Kept us engaged with the history of the Wilderness, and I wouldn't have asked for a better guide. His dad jokes also grew on me, lol. The scenic ride was enjoyed thoroughly. Richard truly enjoys what he does, and his passion emanates. Very polite young man.

What an amazing experience! This is the best way to explore the beautiful surroundings of Wilderness, from the lakes to the mountains and the map of Africa. Bring the whole family for a day of fun. Richard knows the area well and helped with planning a route for a solo ride.

What a fun time this little adventure was. So, before setting out on the road, we were instructed how to use the bikes, and rode around near the shop to become acquainted with the bikes. Once you get the hang of the the little motorized bike, it's actually fairly easy to use. We set out towards the Map of Africa, in a single file. The tar road led into a gravel road. We stopped for photos at various locations, and also for a couple of informational chats. Richard, the lead guy is quite knowledgeable and friendly. The Sweeper (at the rear) Deacon is a very friendly young man who clearly loves the job. He was very helpful. I recommend this tour.
